£5million ‘boost’ for school repair works announced by council

The council has revealed that it has signed off on a programme of improvement works for schools, which are planned for 2026/2027 A total of £2.77 million has been allocated for essential school building maintenance, which the council says will ensure that facilities remain “safe, secure, and fit for purpose”. In addition, a further £2.79 million has been earmarked specifically for essential improvement works at Aylestone School, Hereford, including a full boiler replacement, remedial works to Broadlands House, and re-roofing of the CDT block. The council has said that where possible, maintenance projects include opportunities to “enhance environmental performance” to support its long-term net zero ambitions. Cllr Ivan Powell, cabinet member for children and young people, said: “It is a key ambition for Herefordshire Council to ensure that all children are able to access a good quality education. “It’s important to show our children that we value their education by maintaining our school facilities. “This investment of over £5.5 million into our school maintenance programme will help to provide students with the best possible learning environments.”
