A night of orchestral choral classics is coming to Hereford Cathedral

On Saturday March 14, the Hereford Choral Society, joined by the acclaimed Orchestra De Cymru, will present “A Feast of Choral Classics”. The evening promises to bring the spirit of the Last Night of the Proms to Hereford Cathedral featuring a programme of some of the most beloved choral and orchestral works. With free tickets for under 16s this is an ideal opportunity to introduce your children to classical music. The concert features a stirring selection of favourites, including Parry’s Jerusalem and Elgar’s Land of Hope and Glory. The choir will also explore the romantic landscapes of Elgar’s From the Bavarian Highlands – a deeply personal work where Elgar set delightful music to short poems composed by his wife, Alice, following holidays the couple enjoyed in Germany in the 1890s. “We wanted to create an evening that feels like a celebration” says Peter Dyke who will be conducting in his role of Acting Director of Music. “We also hope to appeal to a new generation of concertgoers.” From the delicate beauty of Mozart’s Ave Verum Corpus and the gentle awakening of Grieg’s Morning Mood to How lovely are thy Dwellings from the Brahms Requiem and the majestic coronation splendour of Handel’s Zadok the Priest, there is truly something for everyone. Tickets: £10, £15, £23, £28. Up to 2 children under 16 free.
