Acting and music legends’ £15m mansions for sale

​The two former homes of a pair of celebrities are now available to buy in the county at eye-watering prices. Actor Michael Caine has starred in Battle of Britain, The Italian Job, The Eagle Has Landed, and The Muppets Christmas Carol over the years. The 92-year-old also famously played Bruce Wayne’s trusty butler Alfred Pennyworth in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. Michael Caine. Mr Caine previously owned Rectory Farm House in Church Lane, North Stoke near Wallingford, where he lived with his family from 1984 to 1999. It was sold by the movie star back in 2020 when it had been listed on the market for £6.95m. This classic 17th-century English country home was listed again on the public market last year with Savills, but the listing has now disappeared. (Image: Savills) A spokesperson for Savills said this week: “To confirm, the property is still available privately and we plan to relaunch it on the open market imminently.” Within 200 yards of the River Thames, the six-bedroom mansion comes with a Moroccan-style jacuzzi, a sauna and a 100,000-litre swimming pool. Estate agent Savills said Sir Michael also planted many trees in the grounds of the 8.3-acre estate which has a guide price of £10m. Nearby in Henley is a six-bedroom riverside mansion formerly belonging to pop legend Vince Hill who passed away in 2023. One of Britain’s most recognisable crooners, he rose to fame in the 1960s with a string of chart hits that showcased his warm baritone and easy charm. He is best remembered for Edelweiss, which became his signature song, along with popular recordings including Take Me to Your Heart Again and Look Around. An imposing riverside residence, the house is distinguished by its dramatic exterior and stretch of frontage along the River Thames, complete with two functioning wet boathouses. While the property is already impressive, there is scope for modernisation and cosmetic updates, allowing a future owner to tailor the interiors to their own tastes. Arranged over three levels, the house offers substantial family living space with six bedrooms and six bathrooms. Below ground, extensive cellar rooms remain, some still bearing visible marks from World War II air raids, adding a fascinating historical layer to the home.
