Busiest year in more than 60 years for beauty spot mountain rescuers

Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team, which covers the Brecon Beacons (Bannau Brycheiniog) National Park and surrounding areas, said it had been contacted nearly 200 times in 2025. “2025 draws to a close and in doing so closes our busiest year ever; in our 62 years of operating we’ve never been called for help more times in a year,” said the team in a post on its Facebook page on December 31. “We were contacted for help 182 times in 2025 and team members were deployed to 156 of those. “Behind all the incidents we’re called to is all the hard work training, practicing, events, charitable governance, admin, meetings, communications, kit checks, vehicle checks, maintenance, the list goes on. “Here’s an end of year small collection of photo memories of the year while we say Happy New Year and best wishes for 2026 to all our team members, their families, our friends, our followers and supporters, without who we couldn’t to do what we’re here to do – save lives in the outdoors.” In November, the Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team praised a group of walkers after a woman collapsed while walking on the Neuadd Ridge, near Talybont-on-Usk, after she began to feel unwell. The actions of the group the woman was with were described as a “textbook example” of what to do in such a situation, said the team. That was the team’s 150th incident of 2025, on Saturday, November 29, and its 175th request for help of the year.
