Changes to Christmas lights switch-on after power fault

The town council has said the fault means that it is unlikely that lights will be switched on in Bye Street during the event on Sunday (November 23). It also said that it won’t have the same string lights as originally planned in The Homend due to the height of the mounting points. The switch-on event will still go ahead, with The Homend, Almshouses, Clock Tower, Market House, council offices, High Street and the Christmas tree all to be lit up as normal during the event. “Unfortunately, we have encountered an issue with the power to the lights on Bye Street and we are working closely with Herefordshire Council to resolve the problem, however, it is unlikely to be resolved in time for Sunday’s event,” a Ledbury Town Council spokesperson said. “We wanted to inform the public in advance and reassure everyone that we are doing everything we can to address the issues as quickly as possible. “Unfortunately, due to issues with the height of the mounting points it has not been possible to have the planned overhead strings installed in The Homend. “However, we are working with the company who have supplied the lights so that this will be rectified for the 2026 switch-on. “We hope this does not detract from your enjoyment of the wonderful entertainment and market stalls that have been planned for day.” The event will take place from 12pm to 5.30pm on Sunday, with the High Street to be closed to traffic all day. There will be a Christmas market, as well as live performances from various local groups. The lantern parade will march to the Market House at 4.15pm, ahead of the light switch-on at 5pm.
