Christmas events and Santa visits at National Trust sites

​The festive calendar, running from November 22 to January 4, sees its historic country houses donning festive decorations and a slew of activities designed to entertain families. The month’s-long celebration extends over the two counties, inviting people to revel in Christmas-themed experiences. Late-night openings and atmospheric twilight walks are offered. Croft Castle in Herefordshire beckons visitors into a Victorian-themed Christmas scene. Running from November 22 until January 4, with a hiatus on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day, the castle will set the stage for storytelling sessions with Father Christmas and a family-friendly, festive adventure trail. The castle’s own natural greenery will feature in a wreath-making workshop, all followed by a winter walk through the castle estates. All events at Croft Castle will require standard admission, with additional events like the wreath-making class incurring extra costs. Berrington Hall in Herefordshire is set to host a Georgian-themed Christmas celebration, with the opening planned for the same period as Croft Castle. Visitors are encouraged to embark on a creative trail through the house and gardens, inspired by Georgian customs. There will be an opportunity for festive horse and carriage rides and wreath-making workshops with greenery from Berrington’s own gardens. At Brockhampton in Herefordshire, traditional Christmas games and activities await. History buffs can journey through time to discover how Christmas Eve was celebrated at the property throughout its 600-year history. A more traditional reception awaits at the medieval manor house, where visitors can meet Father Christmas. Throughout the holiday period, visitors can indulge in everything from woodland strolls to trails for all ages. All venues will require standard admission. Wheelchairs and mobility scooters available (booking essential). Pets are welcome in the gardens, parkland, and relevant areas.
