Growing up, it was an absolute staple visit for many of us, and when we decided to create a doner kebab as a special, it seemed only right to call it Jamal’s Lamb Doner.” Recalling one moment that summed up Jamal’s warmth, Lowe added: “When I moved to Hanoi, I came back about five years later and Jamal still remembered my exact order. I was very sad to hear of his passing, and I hope that this can bring back a few happy memories for others who knew him too.” ALSO READ: The Jamal’s Lamb Doner features tender lamb, crisp salad, and rich garlic and chilli sauces, all wrapped in freshly toasted flatbread and served with golden fries. Asked how it compares to the original, Lowe said: “It’s not the same as the one Jamal made famous in Hereford, but we think it’s a pretty good effort – and we hope that his legacy lives on a little.” For anyone from Hereford feeling a touch of nostalgia – or simply craving a taste of home halfway around the world – Lowe has a simple invitation: “Feeling adventurous? Then pop over to Hanoi and give it a try yourself.” From the heart of Hereford to the lakeside streets of Hanoi, Jamal’s Lamb Doner serves as a fitting tribute to a man whose food – and friendship – meant so much to so many, Mr Lowe added.
