Daly nets brace as Hereford score five in win over Chester

​Aaron Downes celebrated his second win from three games as Hereford boss, with his side given a boost in their relegation fight and are now five points from safety with six games in hand over 20th placed Peterborough Sports. Ahead of the game the Bulls signed Joseph James and Harrison Sohna. Sohna was straight into the starting 11 after signing from Cheltenham Town, while James was on the bench after penning from the Bristol City academy. The Seals came into the game in play-off chasing form after winning four of their last four league matches. Chester went ahead with just five minutes on the clock after Dylan Mottley-Henry won a tugging battle in the box with Keenan Quansah before knocking the ball back for Fin Shrimpton to slide home the opener. Justin Donawa came into the starting line-up ahead of the match after Gus Mafuta pulled up during the warm-up and had Hereford’s opening shot wide after 11 minutes. Four minutes level Hereford were level after skipper Lewis Hudson sent a long ball to loanee striker George Munday who found Donawa to make it 1-1 Chester were reeling from the equaliser and almost re-took the lead immediately, but Michael Kelly’s free-kick flew inches over the crossbar. However, the Bulls were gaining belief and Munday held the ball up for Keziah Martin who unleashed his effort wide. Chester defender Kevin Roberts then saved his side by taking the ball off the toes of Daly who was lurking inside the six-yard box. On the half-hour mark the Bulls were ahead after Aaron Skinner drove his side up the pitch, Munday pulled the ball back to Daly to net. The home side’s lead lasted just four minutes when they got opened up and Mottley-Henry was taken down by a stretching Kyle Howkins, before Connor Woods dispatched the resulting penalty. However, Hereford restored their advantage with a third goal on 38 minutes, with Daly again the instigator and getting to the byline before crossing for Martin to slide home. Bulls skipper Lewis Hudson prevented an almost certain equaliser before the hour mark. Pat Jones controlled the ball expertly and had the goalkeeper beaten, but not Hudson who cleared off the line. Hereford were straight onto the counter-attack with Donawa linking up with Munday before the youngster beat the goalkeeper but saw his effort fly inches wide. Downes’ side were in determined form on the quick surface and Donaway sent an effort wide before Daly cut inside from the wing and forced a smart stop. A key moment came on 73 minutes when Mottley-Henry beat Quansah for pace, but the Chester man saw his subsequent effort under pressure saved. Five minutes later Daly capped a standout performance with a key fourth goal, after seeing his first effort saved the youngster stabbed home the rebound. Returning from injury Lawson D’Ath played a key role in Hereford’s fifth goal after winning a 50-50 ball and playing through for Munday to net. D’Ath almost had a go
