Explorers keep out – police warning about old hotel

Leominster police say they have had ‘numerous’ reports about young people entering a disused hotel on South Street. The intruders have caused damage to doors and windows to gain access to the property and while officers say they are investigating, they are equally concerned that someone will get hurt. It comes as the so-called urban explorer experience, where people on social media enter old buildings and video their exploits, has been on the rise. The practice has been growing in popularity in Herefordshire. Police said: “This building is in a poor state so we don’t want anyone going in and getting hurt. Derelict buildings can be very dangerous and we have a duty of care. “We are dealing with the criminal damage and working with the building owner to get the property secured so no one gets hurt. We are also highlighting the dangers of derelict buildings.” The police have added in extra patrols around the area and say they will deal ” robustly” with anyone found on the premises. The warning comes as urban explorers also came under fire when a building they previously featured in their videos caught alight this weekend. The building in Little Hereford known as ‘the meat house’ was badly damaged in the fire – with police warning it is now unsafe. If you see any person entering the Leominster property, the Leominster Safer Neighbourhood team ask the public to contact them immediately.
