Flooding damage forces school to close for rest of the week

Peterchurch Primary School was badly hit by Storm Claudia floods after the named storm brought a month’s worth of rain to the county on Friday. The floods saw firefighters called to the school’s aid, where they attempted to divert surface water away from entering the buildings, along with salvaging items to prevent further damage. But despite their efforts, the school suffered heavy flooding, forcing it to announce that it would not reopen on Monday or Tuesday this week. And now a further update has confirmed that the school will be closed for the whole of this week. ALSO READ: A school spokesperson said on November 18 that the extended closure is due to the school flooding significantly and repair work being needed. They added that, if there are no delays, KS1 and KS2 will return to school on Monday, November 24, and the whole school including early years on Tuesday, November 25. In an earlier message to parents, a school spokesperson said that the floods had a “major impact on the building”, with water entering the hall and affecting all early years areas inside and outside, as well as other parts of the site.
