Green MP takes part in her first ever Parkrun

Ellie Chowns, who is also the leader of the Greens group in parliament, posted that while it was her first time out in a Parkrun, it would not be her last. The MP ran the trail, in Queenswood, which is close to Ledbury. She posted on her social media page: ” Absolutely stunning to see the sunrise through the trees and run with lots of friendly people through the hills – I’ll definitely be back!” The MP has come in for criticism recently for not voting against the government in support of farmers during their campaign against the changes to inheritance tax. Dr Chowns explained why she voted the way she did here The MP won a shock victory back in July 2024. Parkruns are a hugely successful, and free, running event across the UK, which began over 21 years ago. The numbers now taking part are impressive. In the final week of December 190,000 runners raced in 847 runs, while youngsters ran in 344 junior park runs. The local meeting which Ellie Chowns ran would have to go some way to compete with the biggest of the events. That top position goes to the run where it all started in October 2004, with just 13 runners. Taking part in December in Bushy Park there were 1546 runners, with the route in Southampton coming in second place with 1047 people pulling on their trainers.
