Hamnet film star Paul Mescal wins Bafta nomination

The Irish heartthrob, who plays Shakespeare in the multi-award winning film, has been Bafta nominated as best supporting actor. Mescal was left out of the Oscar nominations for his role as William Shakespeare in Hamnet, but Bafta voters have shown him some love. It comes five years after he won a Bafta, for his breakthrough role in TV’s Normal People. Hamnet, was partly filmed in the Herefordshire village of Weobley in the summer of 2024 and continues to harvest up awards. The film is already hugely popular with film goers as well as critics. Hamnet opens in UK with big ticket sales and more awards | Hereford Times Jessie Buckley, who plays Shakespeare’s wife Agnes, is already nominated for an Oscar. Hamnet today (January 27) landed a total of 11 Bafta nominations including best film, outstanding British film, director, leading actress (Jessie Buckley), supporting actor (Paul Mescal) and supporting actress (Emily Watson).
