Hereford boss praises ‘character and desire’ in away win

Paul Caddis’ side ended a seven league games without a win thanks to second half goals from Gus Mafuta and I-Lani Edwards. “I’m just really pleased with the three points, really pleased with the clean sheet, the application, the desire and that character, I thought we showed it all in abundance. “I thought the (fans) wasted their the money in the first half, it wasn’t a great game of football. I knew that was going to be the case. “I didn’t think we were ever under any huge amounts of pressure.” Caddis made a special mention for defender Keenan Quansah who made a rare start for the Bulls for the injured Matt Preston. “I thought Keenan Quansah was outstanding, he’s been really patient. He came in and I thought he was excellent, fair play to him. It was a really good afternoon for us, a clean sheet on the road at any away venue in this division is something that that can’t be laughed at.” Mufuta eventually broke the deadlock in the 69th minute with a strike to savour which Caddis said that he knew the midfielder was capable of. “Gus takes a lot of criticism for things that people don’t see. He does stuff that we are really grateful of. “His position his brilliant and he’s so calm in possession. Because he’s not a box to box 100 mile-an-hour runner, he won’t get 10 goals a season. “He is so calm, he’s a brilliant character. He’s a winner. I’m really pleased with him. “He scored a few of them last year at Boreham Wood, he doesn’t score a rubbish goal, so to speak. It was a brilliant strike.” Caddis also congratulated Edwards for scoring his first senior goal in football from the substitutes bench. “I thought individually, we matched them up, we could come out on top because in my opinion, we’ve got a better group of players that could cope with us,” he added. Caddis said that it was ‘never in doubt’ that his side would turn their form around due to their desire as his side took their first league win since October 4. However, he added that they are still in a tough position with five away league games in a row.
