Hereford clinch victory on road thanks to second half goals

The Bulls came into the game after a break of 10 days without matches and without a league win since October 4. Following an even the first half, the deadlock was broken on 69 minutes when Gus Mafuta rifled a fine effort into the top corner to give the Bulls the lead. The hosts struggled to muster a response and I-Lani Edwards added a second with 81 minutes on the clock to seal a vital three points for his side. The game’s first chance came on 12 minutes when the ball dropped to Turbines midfielder Dan Jarvis on the edge of the box but he could only fire over the bar. Another chance fell the way of the home side when Kane Felix muscled his way through on goal shortly after but he too was unable to keep his shot down from close range. The visitors responded on 37 minutes when Omari Sterling-James’ free-kick from 18 yards looked destined for the top corner before a fine save from Peter Crook denied him. Peterborough were on the attack three minutes later when Ben Beresford turned sharply and slid Connor Wood in behind but there were no takers for the latter’s low ball across the box. Hereford started the second half brightly and went close when Andy Williams latched onto a loose ball near the edge of the area and fired a shot narrowly wide of the right-hand post. The veteran striker was in action again on 61 minutes when he was picked out inside the box by Keenan Quansah but he could only find the side netting with his effort. Paul Caddis’ side finally found the breakthrough, though, on 69 minutes when Sam Osborne laid the ball off for Mafuta who whipped the ball into the top right-hand corner from 20 yards. And the Bulls doubled their advantage with nine minutes remaining when sharp footwork from Edwards saw him dance past several challenges and fire the ball into the far corner. Hereford almost added a third on 84 minutes when Sterling-James whipped a free-kick towards goal but another fine save from Crook kept the scoreline to 2-0. Hereford: Richardson, Skinner, Howkins, Quansah, Hudson, Sterling-James (Richards 90+1), Hamilton, Mafuta, Osborne (White 74), Williams (Nto 90+3), McFarlane (Edwards 74) Unused subs: Lewis, Rooney
