Hereford concede four goals in away defeat at Chorley

Paul Caddis’ side came into the game buoyed by three wins in four matches in all competitions. However, Anjola Popoola opened the scoring for the hosts with less than five minutes on the clock before Andy Williams brought the Bulls level with his strike on 25 minutes. But another early goal at the start of the second half eventually saw Chorley extend their lead to 4-1, and despite Williams netting a second Hereford goal late on, the Magpies would hold on for the win. Chorley took the lead with the game’s first chance on four minutes when Popoola latched onto Milan Lalkovic’s cross and headed the ball beyond Theo Richardson. And the Magpies almost made it two when Tom Carr was found on the edge of the area and attempted to lob Richardson, but the Bulls shot stopper was alert and tipped the effort over. Hereford went close to levelling the scores on 22 minutes when Sam Osborne linked up with Jaiden White in the final third and curled an effort goalwards that flew inches wide. But the Bulls would find an equaliser three minutes later when Williams met Harley Hamilton’s low cross at the near post and clipped the ball over Matt Urwin and into the far corner. Paul Caddis’ side thought they had taken the lead when Osborne headed in White’s cross two minutes before half-time but the goal was controversially ruled out for offside. Chorley edged in front of their visitors at the start of the second half when Jack Moore’s corner found Mark Ellis free inside the box who powered his header past Richardson. The Magpies would extend their lead on the hour mark when Carr pulled the ball back from the byline for an onrushing Max Wilson who slotted the ball home. And the hosts added a fourth six minutes later when a swift counter-attack saw Tom Walker drive at the Hereford defence and curl the ball into the bottom left-hand corner of the net. Williams grabbed his and his side’s second with five minutes when he slotted home a loose ball from inside the box, but it would turn out to be nothing more than a consolation. Hereford: Richardson, Skinner, Howkins, Quansah, Hudson, D’Ath, Mafuta (Nto 69), Osborne, Hamilton, White (McFarlane 69), Williams Unused subs: Lewis, Preston, Richards, Edwards, Rooney
