Despite the final result the Bulls had chances in the opening 45 minutes and were only two goals down moments before half-time. However, Rooney’s side then capitulated, leaving the Bulls boss questioning if his side were ‘too nice’ in an unforgiving league. “The first half probably summed up a large chunk of our season, where we’ve been in games and there has been nothing in the game. “And then all of a sudden we’re behind again, and then everything just falls into the window, we seem to capitulating. “It’s not a lack of effort from players, they give their all. But, if you look at the season so far as a whole, it’s just not good enough, simple as at both ends of the pitch. “We’re not scoring enough or taking our chances. At the other end we’re conceding too many. “They’re a great group of lads, they are good people. I think at time we’re too nice. “We’re too nice to each other. Too nice for the pitch and at the minute we need people that are going to fight and scrap every week because of the position we’re in and we’re going to need that.” Hereford goalkeeper Theo Richardson was called into action with just four minutes on the clock to deny Chris Sze an opener. The Bulls rallied and had their best spell of the match, with young loanee Cormac Daly forcing a save from George Pickford. Keziah Martin was next to test the goalkeeper with a volley which was straight at the shot stopper. Gus Mufuta was next in on the action and saw his acrobatic effort tipped behind, before heading inches wide from the resulting corner. Hereford agreed a deal for Cambridge United loanee striker George Munday before the game and he had two early efforts also denied by Pickford. Defender Keenan Quansah started against his former side and pushed forward to send an effort over. However, the momentum turned on with Southport’s 33rd minute opener when Malakai McKenzie’s header was saved into the path of Sze to net. The Sandgrounders doubled their lead in first half stoppages with Jordan Slew converting a breakaway goal. The contest was over five minutes into the second half with McKenzie being rewarded for his earlier efforts with a goal. It went from bad to worse for Hereford four minutes later when Max Woltman released striker Sze to score his second goal of the afternoon. McKenzie was also looking to boost his goal tally for the hosts, but fired his effort over the crossbar. Pickford was largely a spectator in the second half, but was on hand to tip Hamilton’s effort over his crossbar. Slew was back on the goal trail and made it 5-0 with 20 minutes remaining on the clock. Hereford’s new loanee striker Munday did get on the score-sheet on his debut and pulled a consultation goal back from the penalty spot five minutes from time.
