Jules Hudson reunites with couple who searched for Herefordshire home on BBC show

I Escaped to the Country, now in its tenth season, sees the presenters revisit some of the househunters they’ve helped find their dream countryside property over the years. Whilst his colleague Alastair Appleton revisited the picturesque Welsh Valleys, Jules reunited with a couple who had appeared on the show househunting in his “neck of the woods”, Herefordshire. At the time of appearing on the show, Jane and David had already been renting in the area, but were on a search for a “home to call their own”. The Hampshire couple had made the move up the UK after David was diagnosed with Parkinson’s, which had brought about a “change in priorities”, and they were now on a hunt for a property that could provide rental income from extra space or land. The couple toured a property in Lyonshall, Wormsley and Almeley, also popping over the border to the Powys village of Llandyssil. Despite the charming Herefordshire properties, it was revealed in the revisit that the couple had decided to settle in Powys, but Jules said he was neither offended or surprised at the decision, given the sight of the “gorgeous” cottage. Catching up with his “nearly neighbours”, Jules toured the 180-year-old cottage, Jane revealed that the sight of the property had made her cry, and left David overwhelmed. Jules said he had “no doubt” the couple had made the right choice, describing the two-bedroom property as warm and welcoming. During a sit-down chat, the couple revealed that they had been charmed by the mystery house in the Herefordshire village of Almeley, which came in the form of an old station house. So intrigued, they revisited to discuss the finer details with the sellers, but felt that planning permission may have proved a “hassle”, due to the Conservation Area it lay in.
