Key A road re-opens after lengthy emergency work

It was due to have re-opened at the end of last week, having been closed in from Monday February 9, but we understand a broken vehicle meant the works had to be extended. The news will come as a relief to local traders who had been badly impacted by the day-time closure, along with drivers heading to Weobley or Leintwardine. Locals are understandably relieved that the work has been complete, however they have been in touch to complain about the lack of information they were offered from the council. The road was resurfaced last October, but it wasn’t until the recent flooding that major problems were found. On February 13 the council explained to the Hereford Times: “Further investigation has identified additional run-off water from nearby fields entering the highway, which poses a significant risk to the public during the winter period with temperatures below freezing. “This was brought about by the recent heavy rainfall and was not apparent before the works took place. As a result, additional emergency works are required to address this issue in the interests of public safety. “Given the urgent nature of these works, it was not possible to provide advance notice of the extended closure.” But in terms of the actual engineering team there was nothing but praise. One resident said: ” A positive has been the friendliness of the workers, in particular those with the unenviable roll of turning back cars.”
