Kington reaches County Cup semis with five goal win over Hereford

Under the Mill Street floodlights, Kington took the lead just 13 minutes in. In a moment of goalmouth confusion from Hereford, Kington’s Noah Whickham seized his chance and hooked the ball from near to the goal line. Then a series of defensive blunders from Hereford, particularly goalkeeper Ollie Lewis, saw Kington captain Mike Ruckledge double the lead, sending the hosts to 2-0 by the first half’s end. Hereford managed to cut the lead to 2-1 in the 59th minute, when Jack Tolley broke through into Kington’s penalty area and fired a low shot past their custodian Theo Williams. Unfortunately, their zest was shortlived as Kington regained their two-goal lead just 10 minutes later. Once more, the ball was not cleared from the penalty area in time, and Wickham struck again, slotting his second goal past Lewis. Keeping up the momentum Kington managed to score another nine minutes later, Ruckledge heading in his second goal of the night from a corner kick. Hereford rallied sufficiently to net a second goal in the 90th minute, courtesy of substitute Ethan Secker-Howe who lobbed Williams from the edge of the penalty area. However, it was Otto Parry who sealed the win for Kington at the 86th minute. Charging into Hereford’s penalty area, he outwitted the opponents and found the back of the net for the fifth time. While Hereford added a second goal in the dying embers of the game, it was in vain as they could not recover from the five-goal barrage.
