Limousin steers top £2,620 as strong trade continues

Auctioneers, Matthew Nicholls, Rory Matthews, and Greg Christopher, announced impressive sale prices for the top steer of £2,620 per head, and heifers at £2,500, compared to £1,440 and £1,325, respectively, in 2021 at this sale. The sale took place on Thursday, January 22, 2026, and showcased 566 high-quality cattle. According to auctioneers, E P Parry Ltd stood out with a pair of Limousin steers that fetched £2,620 per head. The stable also presented 55 heifers and steers, averaging a significant £2,352 per head. Limousin heifers, weighing 570kg and presented by M/s Herdman & Son, reached the highest price for heifers at £2,500 per head. Regarding price per kilo, the top honour was claimed by five Charolais steers from A L Davies & Sons, making £2,050 per head and weighing 440kg at 466p per kilogram. This vendor also received the top price per kilogram for heifers at 470p for four Charolais weighing 425kg and making £2,000 per head. Barren cows, although given less attention, also had Angus cross cows reaching £2,520 per head from J T Davies, and smart Blue cows reached £2,500 from Herdman & Son. The sale had a “large ringside” of customers, with both local and distant buyers attracted by the strong selection of cattle. Vendors must be congratulated for their efforts and at least the cattle trade has moved with it compared to 2021.
