Audience and content editorA wassail event will take place in Breinton at the weekend (pictured: a previous wassail in Leominster). MORRIS dancers, cider, and lots more are promised as a tradition returns to a Herefordshire village this weekend. The Foxwhelp Morris dancers will be kicking off wassail proceedings at Breinton Village Hall on Saturday, January 31. Starting at 6pm, the procession will head across to the orchard opposite for the ceremony, which will include dancing and blessing of the apple trees. Attendees are asked to bring something to make a noise, such as a tray and wooden spoon. Refreshments including hot dogs, gingerbread, flapjacks, cider and apple juice will be provided in the village hall afterwards. “Please do come along and join in this ancient tradition,” organisers said. “Entry is free, but donations will be gratefully received.” The wassail has been made possible by organisers Breinton History Group, with the kind permission of Richard Wall.
