The netball and tennis facilities at Queen Elizabeth High School in Bromyard, were officially opened on September 11, by Nicole Allison, owner of Worcester City Women FC, and Helen Bowden, High Sheriff of Herefordshire. The project was made possible by a £153,000 grant from the Football Foundation, with work beginning in January 2025 and completed by April. Martin Farmer, CEO of Three Counties Academy Trust, said: “This project has taken five years from inception to completion, and we could not be more thrilled that the children at QE, from other schools within our trust and the wider North Herefordshire local community now have a state-of-the-art provision to develop their love of sport. Nicole Allison officially opens the 3G pitch(Image: Football Foundation) “The 3G pitch combined with the new hardcourt facilities will be transformational for our children and community for years to come. “On behalf of Three Counties Academy Trust, I would like to thank all of our partners in delivering these wonderful facilities at Queen Elizabeth High School. “Without the help and advice of such generous benefactors this would not have been possible, and their support has been instrumental throughout the project.” The new floodlit 3G pitch replaces a smaller hardcourt area, while derelict courts behind the school have been restored for netball and tennis. The facilities will be used by pupils, Bromyard FC, trust schools, and the wider North Herefordshire community. The project also received £100,000 from the Clive Richards Foundation, £106,000 in Section 106 funding administered by Herefordshire Local Authority, £15,000 from Three Counties Academy Trust, and £2,500 from Bromyard FC. Robert Sullivan, chief executive of the Football Foundation, said: “The Football Foundation is working closely with our partners – the Premier League, the FA and government – to transform the quality of grassroots facilities in England by delivering projects like this across the country. “Good quality playing facilities have a transformative impact on physical and mental health and play an important role in bringing people together and strengthening local communities. “We’re delighted that the local community in North Herefordshire will now be able to enjoy all these benefits thanks to the new facilities at Queen Elizabeth High School in Bromyard.”
