Senior Reporter 3 Skip to next photo1/1Show caption1/1 PETERCHURCH has once again been badly hit by flooding. The village was awash today (February 7) as these shocking photos show. The Peterchurch community says nothing is being done to prevent the flooding, made worse by the new homes being built and drainage channels not being maintained. Resident Michael Hearn said: “The local authority should be ashamed of themselves. This is not weather related it is incompetent maintenance and a total waste of funding which is not dealing with this county wide. Sorting this out is what people want.” As we reported previously local residents are angry at what they see as a lack of any action to tackle repeated flooding and the problems being exacerbated by the new homes. They have written to the local MP Jesse Norman and asked why nothing has been done since the last heavy rains on January 27. Dr. Callum Scott who is the local Peterchurch Parish Councillor has written to the Herefordshire Floodrisk team saying that in one particularly bad incident two residents in their 80s have only just had homes repaired since the previous storms. He asked what Peterchurch as a parish council can and should do about the repeated flooding. In it he wrote: “Across Peterchurch parish, we are confronting the cumulative consequences of decades of neglected ditch maintenance by riparian landowners.” EnvironmentLocal governmentTransportWeather
