Conrad Smith, 58, from north Powys, who served as an officer in North Shropshire for West Mercia Police, was found to have breached professional standards at a misconduct hearing on Thursday (November 20). Smith, who was a Sergeant based in north Shropshire, had been previously suspended for improperly exercising his powers as a constable. The Accelerated Misconduct Hearing heard that while suspended from his duties, Smith had stayed at a hotel with the same woman. It was found Smith “seriously breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour” and was found to have engaged in “discreditable conduct”. West Mercia Police confirmed that Smith has been dismissed from the force with immediate effect. A spokesperson for the force said: “Smith, who was a Sergeant based in Shropshire, was previously suspended for improperly exercising his powers as a constable and entering into a sexual or improper emotional relationship with a woman he met through his duties as an officer. “While suspended from his duties, he stayed at a hotel with the woman. Yesterday he was dismissed from West Mercia Police without notice and will now be added to the College of Policing’s Barred List, banning him from working for a UK police service in the future.”
