Viv Williams-Hewitt, who is a dedicated volunteer at Ledbury and Malvern Swimming Club, was presented with the Harold Fern and Alfred H Turner Award for Outstanding Contribution, a highly esteemed recognition in the swimming community. Her commitment spans decades and includes serving as a referee at club galas, a role integral to the smooth running of these competitive events. Beyond the club, she has also actively volunteered with Worcestershire County Swimming. The specific award she secured is regarded as one of the highest honours for a volunteer in the sport. Regional committees shortlist candidates, with the final winners chosen by the Swim England Sport Operations Committee. The judging criteria focus on exceptional achievement in several key areas: advancing the sport through competition, coaching, or officiating, administration of the sport and advising the sport. Club chairman Ad West said: “Viv’s dedication is truly exceptional. “We were privileged to be part of the presentation and are extremely grateful for all she does for our club, county, and region. “This award is incredibly well-deserved recognition for her selfless commitment.” As a West Midlands regional winner, Ms Williams-Hewitt now advances to the national level. She will represent the region at the Swim England National Awards, set to take place at the University of Birmingham on Saturday, November 29. Ledbury and Malvern Swimming Club is open for trials and welcomes aspiring swimmers at Stage 7 or above, including Masters. To request a trial, visit their website.
