Update as work continues on landslide-hit A-road

A partial closure has been in force on the busy dual carriageway linking Herefordshire and Monmouthshire since a landslide in February last year. The collapse saw the eastbound carriageway closed at Ganarew, with traffic later diverted into one lane of the westbound carriageway, a situation that continues to this day. Peter Fox, MS for Monmouth, visited the site north of Monmouth to observe progress following a rockfall which closed part of the route. He said: “I am very grateful once again to National Highways for taking the time to invite me to the site, and for showing me the ongoing works. “I have always been a firm believer in seeing something for yourself, and it is clear the work that is going into making this area safe is technical but essential.” Mr Fox was briefed on the installation of 400 to 500 soil nails and tensioned steel mesh designed to secure the rock face and prevent further slips. The visit was a follow-up to a previous visit in February 2025. Additional improvements include a vehicle restrain system and a new drainage channel. Traffic
